Faceball 2000 on Game Boy is this weird little first-person shooter that somehow worked on Nintendo’s brick of a handheld. You’re dumped into these maze-like levels with these blocky, colorful enemies coming at you—honestly, it’s impressive they pulled off a 3D-ish look at all back then.
The controls take a second to get used to (turning feels stiff at first), but once it clicks, you’ll be strafing around corners and blasting those geometric goons like it’s 1991. The music’s got that classic Game Boy chiptune energy, all bleeps and bloops that somehow make shooting triangles feel intense.
It’s janky, sure, but there’s something charming about how ambitious it was for the hardware. If you’re into retro curios or just want to see how they faked 3D before the Virtual Boy flopped, give it a shot. Just don’t expect Call of Duty.
