F1 Racing Championship on the N64 is one of those games that feels rough around the edges now, but back in the day, it was the closest thing to real Formula 1 racing we had. The tracks are surprisingly detailed for an N64 title—you’ll recognize Monaco’s tight corners and Brazil’s long straights—but the real kicker is the weather. One minute you’re racing on dry asphalt, the next you’re sliding through rain with zero grip. It’s brutal, but in a way that makes nailing a clean lap feel like an actual achievement.
The handling takes some getting used to—these cars don’t forgive mistakes, and you’ll spin out a lot at first. But once you get the hang of it, threading through chicanes at full speed is weirdly satisfying. Just don’t expect modern graphics; the cars look blocky, and the framerate chugs sometimes. Still, if you’re into old-school racing sims, this one’s got enough depth to keep you hooked. Just maybe keep a towel handy for when the rain starts.
