F-Zero X is one of those N64 games that still feels ridiculously fast even today. You pick a hovercar—some are tanks, others are glass cannons—and then it’s just pure, chaotic racing at speeds that make Mario Kart look like a Sunday drive. The tracks twist upside down, loop around, and occasionally try to fling you into the abyss if you’re not careful.
What’s wild is how smooth it runs despite the insanity—30 racers on screen at once, zero slowdown. The music’s all crunchy guitar riffs that somehow match the breakneck pace perfectly. And yeah, the 4-player mode is where things get properly unhinged. Friends will scream when someone pulls off a last-second spin attack at the finish line.
It’s not forgiving, but that’s the point. You either learn the tracks or eat guardrails for breakfast.
