F-1 Race on Game Boy is one of those early racers that somehow makes chunky pixels feel fast. You pick from four cars (the red one’s my go-to) and immediately notice how weighty they handle—takes a second to adjust, but once you get the hang of drifting around those tight corners, it clicks.
The tracks are simple but just tricky enough to keep you from zoning out, especially when you’re trying to squeeze past two rivals on a narrow straight. No fancy power-ups or gimmicks, just pure racing where the only thing between you and first place is how well you can take a hairpin turn without skidding into the grass.
It’s got that classic Game Boy charm—basic but satisfying, especially with the link cable multiplayer if you’ve got a friend nearby. Just don’t expect Daytona; this is more about nailing the rhythm of shifting gears and holding your line. Still holds up if you’re into no-nonsense retro racing.
