F-1 Pole Position 64 is one of those N64 racers that actually feels fast—like, white-knuckle, barely-hanging-on fast. The tracks are tight, the cars slide just enough to keep you sweating, and that Monaco circuit? Brutal if you don’t brake early. First time I played, I spun out halfway through and just sat there laughing at how badly I messed up.
You can tweak your car’s setup (gearing, downforce, all that), but honestly, I spent most of my time just trying not to crash. The weather’s a nice touch—rain turns everything into a slip ‘n slide, especially in multiplayer. Speaking of, split-screen’s where this game shines. Nothing like watching your friend wipe out in the last lap while you barely squeeze past.
It’s not the prettiest racer on the N64, but the speed makes up for it. Just don’t expect to win right away.
