F-15 Strike Eagle on Game Boy is one of those old-school flight sims that somehow crammed a decent dogfighting experience into a tiny cartridge. You start off picking your loadout—missiles, bombs, the usual—and then it’s straight into the cockpit, where the pixelated HUD actually does a surprisingly good job of making you feel like you’re flying a real F-15.
The controls take a minute to get used to (good luck nailing those tight turns at first), but once you do, it’s weirdly satisfying weaving through mountains and locking onto enemy jets. The missions are short enough that you can squeeze one in during a bus ride, but don’t expect anything deep—this is pure arcade-style action with just enough realism to keep it interesting.
For a Game Boy port of an ‘80s flight sim, it holds up better than it has any right to.
