About Exciting Boxing (japan)
Exciting Boxing came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in Japan, a release from Konami. It was part of their line of sports games for the console, arriving during a period when developers were experimenting with different control schemes and physical accessories to enhance the basic NES experience.
You control a boxer, moving him around the ring to land punches on your opponent. The main goal is to win matches by knocking out the other fighter or by earning a decision. A signature feature was its unique controller; the game was bundled with an inflatable pad you would actually hit to throw punches in the game. This meant your physical strikes were supposed to translate into jabs and hooks on screen. The game itself could be quite difficult, demanding good timing to block and counter your opponent's attacks. Landing a solid combination and seeing your opponent stagger provides a genuine sense of accomplishment.
