About Excitebike 64
Excitebike 64 came out in 2000 for the Nintendo 64, developed by Left Field Productions and published by Nintendo. It was part of that era when 3D racing games were really finding their footing on the console, a solid entry that built on the simple concept of its NES predecessor.
You control a motocross rider on a variety of outdoor tracks. The main goal is straightforward: finish first. Your primary tools are the bike's acceleration and a pre-load system for jumps, where you hold a button to compress the suspension before a ramp. Landing poorly from a jump or colliding with other riders can cause you to crash, forcing a quick recovery. The tracks are filled with hills and bumps that let you catch big air, and you can perform mid-air tricks like the Superman seat grab for a temporary speed boost upon landing. The racing is fast and requires you to memorize track layouts to time your jumps perfectly; it can be punishing if you mistime a landing before a tight turn. The feeling of nailing a series of jumps and pulling ahead of the pack is a genuine rush.
