Escape From Atlantis, The (unl) (proto2) Game

Escape From Atlantis for NES is one of those weird, kinda janky proto games that never got an official release—which honestly makes it more interesting. You're basically trying to get your little dude off a sinking island while dodging sharks and sea monsters. The controls feel a bit stiff, like most NES prototypes, but there's something charming about the way the water rises in uneven chunks instead of smooth waves.
First time I played, I didn’t realize the boats move on their own, so I kept getting dunked by a rogue octopus. Classic NES-era frustration, but in a way that makes you want to try again. The graphics are simple, but the underwater sections have this cool flickering effect that makes it feel like you’re actually diving deeper.
Not gonna lie, it’s rough around the edges, but if you’re into obscure retro stuff, it’s a neat little time capsule.
