About Elite (europe) (en,fr,de)
Elite came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in Europe in 1985, developed by David Braben and Ian Bell. On the NES, it was one of the more ambitious titles, a space simulation that felt different from the typical platformers and arcade-style games of the era.
You control a spaceship pilot, starting with a small vessel and a little cash. Your main goal is to earn money through trade, combat, or smuggling, upgrading your ship and equipment along the way. The game is built around a few key mechanics: you navigate between star systems using a hyperspace jump, dock with space stations to buy and sell commodities, and engage in combat with pirates or police. The pacing is slow and deliberate, requiring careful planning for each trip, and the difficulty is high, with sudden pirate attacks and strict docking procedures. Playing it feels like managing a precarious business on the edge of civilized space.
