About Elevator Action (japan)
Elevator Action came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985, a conversion of Taito's earlier arcade game. On the NES, it was one of those straightforward action titles that felt right at home on the system, a game built around a single, clever idea.
You control a spy navigating a thirty story building, moving floor to floor primarily by riding elevators. Your goal is to collect secret documents from specific rooms and then escape from the building's garage. The core mechanics involve shooting enemy agents with your pistol and using the building's lighting; shooting out a floor's lights plunges it into darkness, making you harder to see. You also have to dodge enemy fire and sometimes kick agents off the elevators. The pace is quick, and the difficulty ramps up as more guards appear. It feels tense and methodical, planning your route down while managing the constant threats on each floor.
