About Dynablaster
Dynablaster came out for the Game Boy in 1990, published by Hudson Soft. It was part of that early wave of portable games where you got a full console style experience in your hands, a version of the Bomberman formula made for on the go play. The single player mode was the main draw for me, a straightforward maze based challenge that felt perfectly suited for short sessions.
You control a little character who moves through a series of single screen levels, placing bombs to blow up obstacles and defeat the enemies that patrol the area. Your goal is simply to clear each stage of all foes before a timer runs out. The core mechanics involve planting bombs that explode in a cross shaped pattern and then collecting the power ups that appear from destroyed blocks; these upgrades let you lay more bombs at once or increase your blast radius. The pacing is quick, and the difficulty comes from the increasingly clever enemy patterns and the cramped spaces you have to navigate. It feels like a tense puzzle where you are both the hunter and the potential victim of your own explosions.
