Druaga No Tou on Game Boy is one of those weird little dungeon crawlers that feels like it should be simpler than it is. You start at the bottom of this tower, armed with nothing but a sword and some vague directions, and the whole thing plays like a mix of Zelda and an old-school RPG—except way more cryptic. The first few floors aren’t too bad, but then you hit these puzzles where you’re just poking at walls hoping something happens.
It’s got that classic Namco arcade vibe, but translated to a tiny screen with all the jank you’d expect from an early Game Boy port. The music’s catchy in that 8-bit way, though, and there’s something satisfying about slowly grinding your way up the tower, even if half the time you’re not sure what you’re supposed to be doing. Definitely one for the retro masochists.
