About Dragon's Lair (europe)
Dragon's Lair for the NES was a conversion of the arcade game, though it never saw a release in Europe for that system. It was published by CSG Imagesoft. On a console filled with side-scrollers and straightforward action games, this one always stood out for trying something completely different.
You control Dirk the Daring, a knight on a quest to rescue Princess Daphne from a dragon's castle. The game plays out screen by screen; each new room presents a dangerous situation, and you have a split second to input the correct movement or action with your sword. It is less about continuous exploration and more about memorizing the sequence of hazards, like dodging a falling chandelier or striking a monster at the exact right moment. The difficulty is punishing, as a single wrong move sends you back to the start of the scene. Playing it feels like trying to navigate an obstacle course where you only learn the path by failing repeatedly.
