About Dragon Warrior 2
Dragon Warrior 2 came out for the NES in 1987 from Enix. It was part of that wave of early console RPGs where you spent a lot of time grinding and mapping things out on graph paper. The series was still finding its footing, and this was a direct follow-up to the first Dragon Warrior, building on its basic ideas.
You control a party of three descendants of the original hero: the Prince of Midenhall, the Prince of Cannock, and the Princess of Moonbrooke. Your main goal is to defeat the wizard Hargon, who has attacked the kingdom of Moonbrooke. You explore a large world screen by screen, fight random monster encounters in a turn-based system, and delve into dungeons full of traps and dead ends. The game is known for its significant difficulty spike near the end, requiring a lot of level grinding for your party to survive. It feels like a long, deliberate journey where every bit of progress is earned through patience.
