Dragon Slayer - Nemuri No Oukan is one of those classic Game Boy RPGs that flew under the radar outside Japan. You start off as this lone warrior—no fancy backstory, just a sword and a vague mission to wake some sleeping kingdom. The overworld feels cramped (it is the Game Boy), but the dungeons have that old-school Dragon Slayer charm: cryptic puzzles, sudden dead ends, and monsters that wreck you if you rush in blindly.

First thing you’ll notice? The music’s weirdly catchy for a chiptune soundtrack, especially the dungeon theme. Combat’s simple—just swing your sword—but positioning matters since enemies hit hard. I remember getting stuck early on because I missed a hidden switch behind some unassuming wall tile. Classic 90s RPG nonsense.

It’s rough around the edges, but there’s something satisfying about mapping the dungeons yourself on graph paper like we used to back in the day. Not for everyone, but if you dig obscure retro RPGs, this one’s a neat time capsule.
