About Dragon Buster (japan)
Dragon Buster came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1984, a Namco release from the early years of the console. It was a time when side scrolling action games were still defining themselves, and this one landed right in the mix.
You control the hero Clovis, moving screen by screen through a fantasy world. Your main goal is to explore dungeons and defeat the dragons waiting at the end. You have a sword for close combat and a limited magic jump that lets you double jump in mid air, a mechanic that felt quite new back then. The game is methodical; you clear one screen of enemies before proceeding to the next, which makes the pacing deliberate and the difficulty steady. It feels like a careful, sometimes tense trek through monster filled halls.
