Dragon Ball Z: Gokuu Gekitouden on Game Boy is one of those early DBZ fighters that somehow makes tiny sprites feel explosive. You pick Goku, Vegeta, or a handful of others, then mash buttons to throw punches, fire ki blasts, and occasionally pull off a wobbly-looking Kamehameha. The screen flashes, the sound chip screeches—it’s janky, but in that charming 90s handheld way.
What’s cool is how it tries to cram the DBZ vibe into a Game Boy cart. The special moves actually take button combos (good luck nailing them consistently), and there’s this weird little RPG mode where you wander a map between fights. It’s not deep, but landing a Spirit Bomb after whiffing it three times feels oddly satisfying. Just don’t expect Budokai-level polish—this is pure, clunky nostalgia.
If you’ve got a soft spot for retro fighting games or grew up with a grainy DBZ VHS collection, it’s worth a few rounds for the novelty alone.
