About Dr. Jekyll And Mr Hyde
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde came out for the NES in 1988, developed and published by Advance Communication Company. It was one of many licensed games from that era, attempting to translate a classic story into the side scrolling action format common on the platform.
You primarily control Dr. Jekyll, walking to the right through areas like the city and a park to reach a church. Enemies and obstacles drain your life meter while filling an anger meter; if the anger meter maxes out, you transform into Mr. Hyde. The screen then flips, night falls, and you must guide Mr. Hyde leftward, killing monsters quickly to revert back to Jekyll. If Hyde reaches Jekyll's position on the mirrored screen, a lightning bolt kills you instantly, so the core loop is about managing your progress and your transformation under constant pressure. Playing it feels like a tense, often unforgiving race against your own deteriorating state.
