About Dr. Franken (japan)
Dr. Franken came out for the Game Boy in 1992, published by Elite Systems Ltd. It was part of that wave of portable games that tried to pack a full adventure into the small screen, a side-scrolling quest you could take anywhere. You don't see many people talking about it now, but it had a distinct look and concept for its time.
You control Franky, the doctor's assistant, who must explore a large, connected mansion to find all the scattered body parts of his girlfriend, Bitsy. Your main goal is to collect every piece and then operate the revival machine. The gameplay involves screen-by-screen exploration of the mansion, which feels like a maze of rooms and corridors. You use a sword to fight off the various monsters and creatures roaming the halls. The pacing is deliberate; you need to remember layouts and often backtrack as you find new items or overcome obstacles. It can be quite difficult, with enemies respawning and some tricky jumps to navigate. Playing it feels like a slow, methodical puzzle where every new door you manage to open gives a small but tangible sense of progress.
