About Double Strike
Double Strike was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System by Aicom, a developer known for a few other shooters on the platform. It came out during a time when the NES library was filled with side-scrolling action games, and this one fit right into that familiar category.
You pilot the Thrasher Hawk-7, an experimental fighter jet, through nine islands in the South Pacific that have been taken over by a terrorist group. Your objective is to clear each island of enemy forces by flying from left to right, shooting down aircraft and ground targets. The game progresses screen by screen, and a key mechanic is collecting power-ups dropped by specific enemies; these upgrades include better primary weapons, different types of bombs, and occasional extra lives. The pacing is relentless, with enemy fire coming from all directions, and the difficulty can be punishing if you fail to secure the right upgrades. Navigating the tight corridors of some stages while dodging bullets makes for a tense and demanding experience.
