Double Dragon 3 came out on the Game Boy in 1991, developed by Technos Japan Corp. It was part of that wave of arcade brawlers trying to fit onto the small screen. You got a portable version of the side scrolling fights, which was a pretty standard goal for the time.

You control one of the Lee brothers, Billy or Jimmy, and walk from left to right through city streets and other locations. Your main objective is to rescue a woman named Marian from a cult leader. You punch and kick your way through waves of enemies, screen by screen. A couple of specific mechanics stand out: you can pick up weapons like knives and whips dropped by defeated foes, and you can perform special attacks by pressing specific button combinations. The game moves at a quick pace, but the difficulty can feel unforgiving, with aggressive enemies and limited continues. It feels like a condensed, sometimes brutal, test of your reflexes and pattern recognition.
