Double Dragon 3 on Game Boy is exactly what you’d expect—a tiny, slightly janky version of the arcade brawler, but somehow that makes it more charming. You’ve got the Lee brothers (or a friend, if you’ve got a link cable) punching and kicking through waves of goons, just like the old days. The sprites are chunky, the controls take a second to get used to, and yeah, you’ll probably eat a cheap hit or two from off-screen enemies. But that’s part of the fun.
It’s not as smooth as the arcade original, but there’s something satisfying about playing it on the go. The levels are shorter, the music’s tinny, and by the third stage, you’ll be cursing at how fast some enemies gang up on you. Still, if you’ve got nostalgia for this era of beat ‘em ups, it’s hard not to grin when you land a spinning kick on some poor thug. Just don’t expect it to go easy on you.
