About Door Door (japan)
Door Door came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985, published by Enix. It was one of those early NES titles that felt like a direct translation of an arcade puzzle idea, simple in concept but demanding in execution. This was also the first game from Koichi Nakamura, who later worked on the Dragon Quest series.
You control a round character named Chicky, and your goal is to trap monsters by luring them into doorways and then shutting the doors on them. Each screen is a single room with multiple doors and platforms. The main mechanics involve running to open a door, waiting for an enemy to follow you through, and then quickly closing it to crush them. You have to time your movements carefully, because the monsters are persistent and the rooms are small. The game moves at a fast pace, and the difficulty ramps up quickly as more enemies appear and the layouts get trickier. It feels like a tense game of cat and mouse where a single mistimed step can end your run.
