Dirty Racing came out for the Game Boy in 1990, developed by KID. It was part of that early wave of portable racers, a time when developers were figuring out how to make driving games work on a small, monochrome screen. You got a lot of these simple, pick-up-and-play titles back then, and this one fit right in.

You control a top-down car, navigating through a series of short, obstacle-filled tracks. The main goal is to finish each race in first place, but the real challenge comes from the course design. The tracks are narrow, forcing you to swerve around oil slicks, puddles, and other cars that seem to love drifting into your path. Your car has a satisfying sense of weight; it slides around corners, and you have to constantly correct your line to avoid spinning out or hitting a barrier. The races are quick, but the difficulty can be unforgiving if you make a mistake. It feels like a constant, tense battle for control on a slippery surface.
