About Devil World (japan)
Devil World came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1984, developed and published by Nintendo. It was one of the earlier titles for the platform, a time when many games were still figuring out the console's capabilities. Interestingly, it was the only NES-era game directed by Shigeru Miyamoto that wasn't released in North America, though it later became available on the Wii's Virtual Console service.
You control a small green dragon named Tamagon, navigating a single-screen maze. Your goal is to collect all the dots scattered around the layout while avoiding enemies. The core mechanics involve more than just running; you can blow bubbles to temporarily trap foes, and the maze itself is constantly shifting. The screen scrolls in different directions, controlled by the devil at the top and bottom of the playfield, forcing you to constantly adapt your route. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty comes from the unpredictable screen movement and the increasing number of enemies. It feels like a frantic race against a closing window, where your planning is constantly upended by forces outside your control.
