Darkwing Duck on GB is one of those Game Boy gems that holds up way better than it has any right to. You start off with that classic Darkwing pose—cape billowing, smirk in place—before jumping straight into some surprisingly tight platforming. The first level throws you right into St. Canard at night, ducking under streetlights and taking out thugs with your gas gun.

What surprised me was how much personality they packed into those tiny sprites. Megavolt’s animations are ridiculous in the best way, and the way Darkwing flips when he jumps just feels right. The controls are snappy, though some of the later levels get brutal—expect to retry a few times when the platforms get smaller and the enemies sneakier.

If you grew up with the cartoon, the little details will hit you right in the nostalgia. The music’s got that bouncy, heroic vibe, and the dialogue bubbles between stages nail the show’s goofy tone. It’s not the longest game, but it’s got that old-school challenge where finishing it actually feels like an accomplishment. Definitely worth dusting off the Game Boy for.
