Daiva - Imperial Of Nirsartia (japan) Game

Daiva - Imperial of Nirsartia is one of those weird, obscure NES gems that never made it outside Japan. It’s a sci-fi strategy-action hybrid where you’re juggling turn-based overworld decisions with real-time battles—kinda like if Fire Emblem had a baby with an arcade shooter. The pixel art’s surprisingly detailed for a 1986 release, with these chunky mechs and alien landscapes that feel way ahead of their time.
First few minutes? You’re thrown into managing resources, picking units, and then suddenly you’re in this top-down shooter segment blasting away at enemy swarms. The difficulty spikes hard if you don’t plan your moves carefully, but there’s something satisfying about finally cracking a tough mission after a few retries. Weirdly addictive, even if the translation’s rough (thanks, 80s Japanese-only release).
Fun fact: It’s the sixth game in a series, but the only one that landed on the NES—the rest were on computers like the PC-88. Definitely a cult favorite for retro strategy fans.
