About Daiku No Gen San (japan)
Daiku no Gen San came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987, developed and published by Vic Tokai. It was part of that wave of action platformers that filled the NES library, a straightforward game about a carpenter on a job site.
You control Gen-san, a carpenter who swings his large hammer as his primary weapon. Your goal is to fight through construction sites and buildings, rescuing your kidnapped coworkers from a rival construction gang. The game progresses screen by screen; you clear each area of enemies before moving to the next. You use your hammer to smash enemies and break open certain blocks, sometimes revealing power-ups like a projectile attack or temporary invincibility. The pacing is quick, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, with precise jumps and aggressive enemies. Playing it feels like a hectic, noisy day at a demolition site where you are the main event.
