Daiku No Gen San (or Hammering Harry if you're playing the US version) is one of those weirdly satisfying NES beat 'em ups where you're just a construction worker swinging a hammer at everything. No fancy swords or magic—just you, your trusty mallet, and a bunch of jerks in hard hats who need knocking off scaffolding.
The controls are simple—jump, swing, repeat—but the levels get surprisingly chaotic. One minute you're smashing guys off ladders, the next you're dodging falling girders. The music’s got that classic NES charm, all bouncy and upbeat like it’s cheering you on while you turn construction sites into brawl pits.
It’s not the deepest game, but there’s something weirdly fun about how straightforward it is. Just don’t get too cocky—those hardhats hit back harder than you’d expect.
