Alright, so Dai 2 Ji - Super Robot Taisen is basically the granddaddy of mecha strategy games—and yeah, it’s on the NES, so expect some serious pixelated nostalgia. You’ve got Mazinger Z, Gundam, Getter Robo, and a bunch of other classic anime robots all crammed into one turn-based battlefield. At first, it feels a little slow—old-school grid movement, no flashy animations—but once you start positioning your units just right to counter enemy attacks, it clicks.
Don’t go in expecting modern QoL stuff, though. The menus are clunky, and some of the mechanics (like repair costs) will punish you if you’re careless. But there’s something weirdly satisfying about watching your squad of mismatched mechs barely scrape through a mission, especially when you pull off a last-minute counterattack. If you grew up with 80s anime or just love tactical games with personality, this one’s a time capsule worth digging into.
Just remember: save often, and don’t let your favorite robot get wrecked—repairs aren’t cheap.
