Dai-2-Ji Super Robot Taisen is one of those Game Boy gems where you’re thrown straight into grid-based battles with a squad of mechs straight out of classic anime. The first time I played, I spent way too long just staring at the roster—Gundams, Mazinger, Getter Robo—trying to decide who to bring into battle. Spoiler: you can’t go wrong with a Gundam.
It’s not just about brute force, though. Positioning matters, energy management is key, and some attacks straight-up miss if you don’t pay attention to terrain. The sprite work is surprisingly detailed for a Game Boy title, and there’s something weirdly satisfying about watching pixelated beam sabers slice through enemy units. If you’re into turn-based strategy or just love old-school mecha, this one’s a blast. Just don’t blame me when you lose track of time mid-battle.
