About Crayon Shin-chan - Ora To Poi Poi (japan)
I first came across Crayon Shin-Chan - Ora To Poi Poi on the NES back in 1993. It was a Japanese exclusive from Bandai, so you had to either import it or find it through other channels. For a late era NES title, it was a nice surprise to see a licensed game based on a property that was still pretty new at the time, especially one that made it to the aging 8-bit hardware.
You control the mischievous Shin-Chan, running through side scrolling stages in his neighborhood. The main goal is simply to get to the end of each level, but you spend most of your time interacting with everything and everyone. The signature mechanics are using your "poi poi" jump to bounce on objects and the way you talk to NPCs, which often triggers short, silly cutscenes. The pacing is relaxed; it's not a difficult game, and there's more emphasis on causing cartoonish trouble than on challenging platforming. Playing it feels like stepping into a short, interactive episode of the show.
