About Controller Test
Controller Test was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System, though it never received a formal commercial release. It was created by Nintendo, primarily as a diagnostic tool rather than a traditional game. This places it among the small number of utility cartridges made for the NES, used to verify that the console and its controllers were functioning correctly.
You do not control a character; instead, you interact directly with a series of diagnostic screens. The main objective is to press every button on the controller and move the directional pad in all directions to confirm they register properly on screen. Signature mechanics include watching for visual feedback, like highlighted buttons and directional indicators, and listening for confirmation beeps. The pacing is methodical, and the difficulty is non-existent as it is a purely functional tool. It feels like running a systems check on a familiar piece of equipment.
