Contra on Game Boy is basically the same brutal run-and-gun chaos you remember from the NES version, just crammed into a tiny screen. You pick Jimbo or Sully (doesn’t really matter who—you’ll die just as fast either way) and immediately start blasting aliens while dodging bullets that come at you from every angle.
Riding missiles is as ridiculous as it sounds, and the controls somehow feel even tighter than the console version. That said, good luck getting past the first few levels without memorizing every enemy spawn. This port’s tough as nails, but nailing a perfect run feels incredible when it finally clicks.
Just don’t throw your Game Boy across the room when you get hit by that one pixel you swore you dodged.
