Commando on the NES is one of those classic arcade ports that somehow feels even more intense on a home console. You play as Super Joe, this lone soldier dumped into the middle of a jungle warzone by helicopter—no backup, just you and an endless wave of enemies. The controls are simple but brutal: your machine gun sprays bullets in any direction, but those precious grenades? They only go straight up, so you’ve gotta time them right when enemies cluster together.
What I love is how chaotic it gets—soldiers pop out of bushes, jeeps roll in from nowhere, and grenades become your best friend for clearing whole groups at once. The jungle backdrop scrolls upward, forcing you to push forward while dodging bullets and tossing explosives like a madman. It’s pure 80s arcade action, no frills, just survival. If you’ve got a thing for tough-as-nails shooters, this one’s a blast.
