About Commando
Commando came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985, developed and published by Capcom. It was part of that early wave of NES games that brought straightforward arcade action into living rooms, focusing on a clear, single minded goal rather than a complex story.
You control a soldier named Super Joe, fighting your way through a jungle from the bottom of the screen to the top. Your main objective is to survive the onslaught of enemy soldiers and vehicles, clearing each vertically scrolling stage to reach the end. You have a machine gun with unlimited ammo that can fire in eight directions, and a limited stock of grenades that can only be thrown upward to destroy obstacles and groups of enemies. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is unforgiving, demanding quick reflexes and careful grenade management. It feels like a tense, constant push against an overwhelming force.
