About College Slam
College Slam came out for the Game Boy in 1995, developed by Iguana Entertainment. It was part of that wave of sports games trying to capture the arcade feel on a handheld, a time when developers were still figuring out how to fit a full court onto that small green screen. You got a portable version of the college basketball hype without needing a console.
You pick a team of college players and control them on the court, running plays and taking shots to outscore the other team. The main goal is to win each match, leading your chosen squad through a tournament bracket. Signature mechanics include performing special dunks by hitting a button combination at the right moment and calling for alley oops to set up flashy scores. The pacing is fast, with the AI applying constant defensive pressure that makes every possession count. It feels like a quick, chaotic pick-up game squeezed into a pocket sized package.
