About Cocoron
Cocoron came out for the NES in 1991, published by Toho. It was part of that later wave of NES titles where developers were getting more experimental with the hardware, trying new things before everyone moved on to the 16-bit consoles. It has a particular look and feel that sets it apart from the more straightforward platformers of the era.
You control a small, customizable robot on a mission to rescue your creator's kidnapped daughter. The main goal is to navigate through a series of themed worlds, each a collection of single-screen rooms. Before you start, you build your robot from scratch, choosing a body type, a main weapon like a sword or a boomerang, and a special ability; this choice directly affects how you tackle the levels. You explore these areas screen by screen, fighting off strange enemies and searching for the exit, which often requires a key. The game can be quite difficult, with precise jumps and quick reactions needed to avoid spikes and enemies. Playing Cocoron feels like solving a compact, hands-on puzzle with each new screen you enter.
