About Cliffhanger
Cliffhanger came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993, developed by Spidersoft. It was part of that wave of movie tie-in games on the NES, where developers tried to capture the feel of an action film within the console's technical limits.
You control Gabe Walker, moving him through side-scrolling stages based on the film's mountain and fortress settings. Your main goal is to rescue Hal, fighting through terrorists and navigating hazardous terrain. You jump across chasms, climb ropes, and use a knife or a pistol against enemies. The game progresses screen by screen, with a boss waiting after several levels, culminating in a fight against Qualen, the terrorist leader. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is steep, demanding precise jumps and quick attacks. Playing it feels like a constant, tense scramble up a digital mountain.
