Clay Fighter 63 1/3 came out on the Nintendo 64 in 1997 from Interplay Entertainment. It was part of that wave of early 3D fighters trying to find a place on the console, and it stood out immediately because of its look. The characters were all made of clay, which gave the game a weird, stop-motion style that you didn't see anywhere else. It was a strange and silly alternative to the more serious fighting games of the time.

You pick from a cast of bizarre fighters, like a living snowman or a stretchy blue blob, and battle it out in one-on-one fights. The main goal is to deplete your opponent's health bar before they deplete yours. The game has a few specific mechanics, like using a special button for taunts that can actually power up your character, and pulling off exaggerated special moves that fit the comedic tone. Matches can feel a bit slow and clunky compared to other fighters, and the controls aren't always as responsive as you'd hope. Despite its technical flaws, there's a genuine charm to landing a ridiculous move and watching a clay character explode into pieces.
