Choujin Sentai Jetman came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991, developed by Natsume. It was part of that wave of licensed games based on popular Japanese shows, a familiar sight on the NES. This one is based on the Super Sentai series that eventually inspired the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in the West.

You control one of the five Jetman heroes, switching between them as you move screen by screen through side scrolling stages. Your main goal is to fight through waves of enemy soldiers and monsters to reach the stage boss. The core action is a standard beat 'em up; you punch and kick your way forward, and each character has a unique projectile weapon, like a bow or a boomerang. After clearing the side scrolling portion, the game shifts to a separate mode where you pilot the giant robot, Jet Icarus, for a one on one fight against a monstrous enemy. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can be unforgiving with aggressive enemies and limited continues. Playing it feels like a direct, hands on translation of the TV show's action sequences into a challenging NES cartridge.
