About Chip's Challenge (proto)
Chip's Challenge (Proto) was an unreleased NES game developed by Epyx. It was meant to bring the tile based puzzle experience from home computers to the console, existing as a prototype that never saw a commercial cartridge release.
You control Chip, a student navigating through over one hundred puzzle filled screens. Your main goal is to collect all the computer chips in a level to unlock the exit door. The gameplay involves pushing blocks to clear paths, avoiding or outsmarting enemies like fireballs and blobs, and picking up items like flippers to swim or fire boots to walk over flames. The puzzles are methodical, requiring you to plan your route carefully as a single wrong move can trap you. It feels like a test of logic and patience where every screen is a new, self contained problem to solve.
