Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990, developed by Capcom. It was part of that wave of games based on cartoons, a pretty common sight on the NES. You play as either Chip or Dale, the two chipmunk detectives from the show, working to solve cases.

You control your chosen chipmunk through side scrolling levels, running and jumping across platforms. Your main goal is to get to the end of each stage, fighting off enemies and finding keys to unlock doors. A signature move is picking up boxes and other items to throw at enemies; this is your primary way of attacking. The game also features two player co op, where a second player can join in as the other chipmunk. The levels are fairly linear but require some exploration to find all the collectibles, like acorns that give you extra lives. The pacing is quick, and the difficulty feels just right, not too punishing but it keeps you on your toes. It feels like a solid, straightforward platformer from that era.
