Chibi Maruko-chan 4 is one of those weird little Game Boy gems you stumble on if you dig deep enough into Japan-only releases. It’s a quirky adventure game starring the iconic round-faced kid from the anime, but this time she’s on a mission to explore Japan—or at least a very pixelated, super-deformed version of it.
You’ll bounce between mini-games and simple exploration, chatting with NPCs who look like they stepped right out of a 90s manga. The controls are clunky by modern standards, but there’s charm in how earnest it all feels—like someone really wanted to cram a whole cultural field trip into a tiny cartridge. The dialogue’s all in Japanese, so unless you’re fluent, expect a lot of button-mashing through text boxes.
Honestly, it’s more of a novelty than a must-play, but if you’re into retro oddities or grew up with the series, it’s a neat little time capsule. Just don’t expect deep gameplay—this one’s all about the vibes.
