About Chase H.q
Chase H.Q. came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989, published by Taito. It was part of that wave of arcade ports trying to capture fast action on the home console, sitting alongside other driving games of the era that focused on simple, immediate goals rather than long campaigns.
You control an undercover police officer driving a sports car to chase down criminals. Your main objective is to catch a specific getaway car before the timer runs out. The criminal is always ahead, so you must navigate traffic at high speed, avoid crashes that slow you down, and sometimes choose the correct path at a fork in the road to keep your target in range. Once you close the distance, the game shifts to a ramming phase where you must hit the criminal's car several times to force it off the road and make the arrest. The pacing is relentless because the time limits are tight, often just 60 seconds to initially catch up and another 60 to complete the takedown, making a successful run surprisingly short but intensely focused. It feels like a high speed, condensed pursuit where every second and every bump matters.
