About Championship Pool
Championship Pool came out on the Game Boy in 1993, a time when portable games were mostly simple action titles. Mindscape published it, bringing a simulation of eight ball and nine ball to a handheld screen. It was a different kind of game for the system, focusing on precision over speed.
You control the cue stick, aiming your shots with a targeting line on the overhead view of the table. The main goal is to pocket all your designated balls and then the eight ball to win the frame. You adjust the power of your shot with a meter and can apply English to the cue ball for position play. The game demands patience; a careless shot can easily scratch or leave your opponent an open table. It feels like a quiet test of concentration, a pocket sized version of the real thing.
