Chameleon Twist came out for the Nintendo 64 in 1997, developed by Japan System Supply. It was part of that early wave of 3D platformers on the system, a time when developers were still figuring out how to move characters in this new dimension. You don't play as a typical hero; you control a chameleon who, according to the manual, got sucked into a strange world after chasing a white rabbit into a pipe.

You guide your chameleon through a series of themed worlds, screen by screen, with the main goal being to reach the exit. Your tongue is your primary tool. You can shoot it out to latch onto poles and swing across gaps, or you can use it to grab enemies, pull them in, and then spit them out as projectiles. The camera can be a bit stubborn in tight spaces, and some of the platforming requires precise timing, especially in later levels. Navigating the environments with your stretchy tongue gives the movement a unique, bouncy rhythm that feels different from other games of its type.
