Chachamaru Boukenki 3 is one of those weird, obscure Game Boy RPGs that never left Japan—which is a shame because it’s got this weirdly charming mix of dungeon crawling and turn-based battles. You play as Chachamaru, a little adventurer diving into a massive tower full of monsters, traps, and loot. The pixel art’s simple but full of personality, and the music’s got that classic Game Boy chiptune vibe.
At first, it feels like a typical dungeon crawler, but then you realize the tower’s full of puzzles and secrets. Some floors have hidden switches, others force you to backtrack once you find new gear. The combat’s straightforward—pick attacks, spells, or items—but enemies hit hard if you’re not careful. I remember getting wrecked by a random slime because I wasn’t paying attention.
If you’re into retro RPGs with a bit of challenge, this one’s a neat little time capsule. Just don’t expect an English patch anytime soon.
