About Centre Court Tennis (e)
Centre Court Tennis came out for the Nintendo 64 in 1999, developed by Hudson Soft. It was one of the few dedicated tennis games on the console, arriving at a time when 3D sports titles were still figuring things out. You got a straightforward tennis simulation without the flash of some other releases.
You control a single tennis player from a behind-the-back perspective, moving them around the court to return serves and volley. The main goal is to win matches by outscoring your opponent in sets. Key mechanics include a risk-reward system for powerful shots, where holding the button longer increases power but also the chance of hitting the ball out, and a simple control scheme for different shot types like lobs and slices. The pacing is generally quick, though the computer opponent can be unforgiving on higher difficulties, punishing any poorly placed returns. It feels like a solid, no-frills match of tennis where your positioning and timing matter most.
