Castlevania: Legends on Game Boy is one of those weird, forgotten entries in the series—but honestly? It’s got charm. You play as Sonia Belmont (the first Belmont, supposedly), whipping your way through moody, flickery castles that somehow feel bigger than the tiny screen should allow.
The controls are stiff in that classic early Castlevania way—no fancy backflips here, just careful jumps and a whip that demands precision. Some enemies are total jerks (looking at you, floating medusa heads), but figuring out their patterns is half the fun. And that chiptune soundtrack? Surprisingly haunting for a Game Boy game.
It’s rough around the edges compared to later titles, but there’s something raw about it—like stumbling onto an old diary full of crossed-out ideas that eventually became Symphony of the Night. Worth a play if you’re into the series’ history, even if just to see where things almost went.
