Castlevania Adventure came out for the Game Boy in 1989 from Konami. It was one of the early attempts to bring the gothic action of the series to a portable screen, a time when developers were still figuring out how to translate console experiences to that small green display. You got a taste of the franchise's signature mood, but it was a very different beast from what you might have played on the NES.

You control Christopher Belmont, whipping your way through four stages of Transylvania to defeat Dracula. The game progresses screen by screen; you move forward until enemies are cleared, then the next section scrolls into view. Your main weapon is the Vampire Killer whip, which you can power up twice by collecting orbs, though taking damage sends it back to its weakest state. The platforming is deliberate and the jumps feel heavy, making precise timing essential on narrow ledges and against flying foes. It is a slow, demanding trek where every enemy encounter and pitfall requires your full attention. Playing it feels like a careful, methodical fight against the controls and the level design itself.
