Castle Excellent (or Castlequest, depending on where you played it) is one of those old-school NES games that feels like a mix of adventure and puzzle-solving. You play as Prince Rafael, who’s got to rescue Princess Margarita from this creepy castle full of traps and weird enemies. The whole place is like a maze—doors lead to unexpected rooms, keys are hidden in weird spots, and sometimes you just end up going in circles.
It’s not just about hacking through enemies, either. You’ve got to figure out how to navigate the castle’s shifting layout, and if you’re not careful, you’ll run out of health or get stuck. The music’s got that classic 8-bit charm, and the graphics are simple but kinda eerie in a way that fits the whole "haunted castle" vibe. It’s definitely one of those games where trial and error is part of the fun—or frustration, depending on how lost you get.
If you like retro games that make you think (and occasionally throw your controller), this one’s a neat little time capsule from 1986.
